I kept trying and then the fuel pump started going in and out of priming and the lights were going on and off in sync with it. It seems like a fuel issue to me but I can't confirm it. If the fuel has been sitting in the engine for six months then you want to drain out as much of the old fuel as possible and try to start the engine using fresh fuel.
